Default Galations 5

I stumbled into this during 3rd period at school today and it really cracked me up!

Galations 5

Quote:
...11Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
Check the bold, lol

That is rather funny I must say. Interesting what we find when we truly look.

heh. Somehow I don't think a clipped quote from galatians taken 1800 years out of context is really "truly looking."

Actually, Origin of alexandria did castrate himself. but he wasn't an agitator.
maybe he had some problems with understanding the text.

it's a good lesson for the kids - read carefully before you castrate yourself.

The context only makes it funnier.

In the city of Galatia, cults were starting up that preached that you must keep the law (ie circumcision) and have faith in Jesus to receive salvation. Paul wrote this letter to the church in Galatia to defend what Jesus taught, and not what the cults were spreading.

So Paul is saying, "If you feel like you have to keep THAT part of the law, why don't you go all the way?!"
