I'm totally fascinated about this subject. I first heard about it from Acharya's first book. I've been really into it lately. I'm not sure how much of its true or how much it explains religion, but I generally agree with the perspective.
I'm also fascinated with archetypes. The two subjects seem closely related. To me, archetypes theory is the best support of astro-theology. Yes, there are universal patterns that humans have observed in the sky, but these directly correlate to the universal patterns in the human psyche.
I don't know what causes what, but determining causation is less important than noticing the patterns themselves. Too many people get caught up with what is the causation. Discussions of astro-theology often devolve into nitpicking about details. Details can't prove the theory, but they can help to elucidate them. It really doesn't matter that evey part of the theory is true as long as the general pattern of the theory holds up.
The ancients were obsessed with the celestial movements. That can't be denied. I'd be surprised if this didn't influence the development of religion. |
