I can't believe you used the word enlightened to describe people who believe there is an all powerful being in the sky who gives a rat's butt about us and our prayers.

I totally agree with this. And in my personnal experience, it's not just 'old stuffy christians' who don't think outside of the box. I've found that sometimes the problem is they think they're open minded to modern science, until you ask them what they think about...i dunno, the big bang theory, then they freak out! Haha ok kinda a lame example, but do you get my drift?

Jesus said people are like trees, if they produce rotten fruit, they're rotten themselves.
The fruit of stuffy fundie xtians is rigid humourless mindset, judgementalism, and the knack of being able to put people off Jesus for life.
Even worse I bet they never watch Arnie Schwarzenegger films..

But what if that "something" is beyond the range of our 5 senses, does that mean it doesn't exist?

TWIDDLING AWAY by Mick
Atheists are like a radio operator with earphones on, hunched over his radio set twiddling the knob between just 5 wavelengths (analoguous to our 5 human senses) He doesn't know there are thousands more wavelengths out there.
In the past he's twiddled further looking for them, but all he got was mostly static, so he gave up and stuck with his trusty old 5.
Christians on the other hand have acquired the mindset of being able to tune into wavelengths that he can't -
"We look at things unseen rather than the seen, for the seen are temporary, but the unseen are eternal" (2 Cor 4:18 )
I had a radio once that had an "auto-search" option, it was fun putting it on "search" to automatically scan the airwaves, it locked onto a station for a few seconds, then scanned on to stop at another, and so on.
Most of the stops were crap, very faint or crackly with barely-audible foreign language coming through, it might have been Radio Timbuctoo for all i knew...
But every now and again it'd stop at a station that came through loud and clear and interesting, whether it be good music or interesting discussion in English, and i'd halt the scan and stick with it.
Likewise in real life I've scanned many religions in my own mind by reading about them and weighing them up, but there's only ONE that has ever reached out and grabbed me in a vice-like grip, -Christianity ;)

Oh I am well aware that there are more than 5 five knobs. But decisions to not beleive in god comes straight for me for the reasons I have. They are the same reasons I dont follow a religion for.
And Christianity had a very horrible history. Burning people, killing people for no reason, slaying entire holy knight orders due to money problems, catholics are now being sued for malesting little boys. There are a lot of thing that I do not like about Christianity. I have nothing against people who follow it. But it's not a religion that i would follow as far as I can see. Thats my opnion today and maybe for another wekks and such.

Yet you still sound, and and I'm not saying you are like a Buddhist to me.
I've tried different religions but could not be grasped by any of them. The concept of God seems vary illogical and is completely human. No other animal worships anything. If you conclude that, you come to the conclusion of god as a thought created by humans. My 5 human senses can always lie to me but my own logic wouldn't. Logic defies what is real and what is not. Many religions are also based on faith.Logic beats faith any day of the week. I gave up turning the knobs because i realized that there wasn't a point. When the concept was first written down people probably have changed the perception of him 1000 times before the books made it to the out time. Same with Jesus. I can believe Jesus existed, but can't believe that he performed everything the Bible says he has, because Bible nowadays is just a big book of Christian stories that are great for moral value, and that's about it. But if it makes you happy, I guess it's completely your own choice to believe in what you want to believe. I believe in logic.

On the contrary Christianity restricted my thought process. I couldn't be open minded with everyone telling me what to think and how to act. Everyone believes what they believe because that's what makes the most sense to them. So in my opinion, everyone has their own channels, because they're all in tune with different things.=D

No mate, I think you mean to say you like Christianity but not the halfwits who get it a bad name ;)
I share your sentiments entirely, but don't let them put you off Jesus or you'll be as halfwitted as they are ;)
Relax, God is onto the phoney christians - "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." (2 Corinthians 11:13/14)
