Default WORDS: A Spiritual Shift

A slight shift that has a great and profound effect on the reader, occurs when it is read from the perspective the writer intended. The words “we” and “you” and “us” require that the reader has a common understanding, a relationship with the first party. If the first party is addressing the reader as being like him, a person who is not of similar character, is limited to “deducing” the meanings of the words spoken. It is like reading another persons love letter. An experiential understanding of the “lover” is far removed from the reader, to whom the words, “you,” “we,” and “us,” can only be theorized about. There exists no empirical link between the characters and, this fact precludes any sure soundness of interpretation.
COL. 1:12 To relate the letter example to the Scriptures; as no other human can stand in another character, it is impossible to judge another persons interpretation of Holy words. Since God’s words are written to “all” of us, we will each stand in the position we belong, not where we would like to picture ourselves.

When you see or read “Holy Words,” they will hold no value or understanding, except, how they fit or reflect your present state, or your past. Words are stationary, while it is we that are transient and subject to change. The gift of holy words is their ability to reflect each of our lives; the words themselves transcending the base meanings contained in what might be seen as stories or fables.

I see two things that the human race was endowed with, that together, create a unique blending of powers, regarding our ability to reason and, the inherent power in words. Our reasoning powers allow us, or enable us, to gain an understanding of words that opens our minds to possibilities we can not even imagine.

Words are composed in such a way, that each word contains unlimited degrees of interpretation, with each degree containing its own level of understanding as per our different minds. I will explain. Lets take one word as an example, GENEROSITY. I’m using a word that is easier to relate to, since it is easier to define ‘differences’ when it concerns what I’ll call ‘worldly things’. Words like, faith, devotion, belief, and other more esoterically defined words, are much harder to relate to then GENEROSITY.

No one can conceive of a higher definition of a word, than his experience has exposed him to. If for example, one’s level of generosity was giving a dollar at church for the poor, he would have a different level in his own awareness, than the person who gives all he has to the poor. Between the two extremes exists all of our own interpretations. In order not to get sidetracked, I am not concerning myself with the right and wrong of the two levels. Equally each man could say, ‘I am generous, and I know what the word means’. Even though we know there are great ‘diferrences’ between them. Now here’s my point! In what I call the more esoteric words, there are also ‘levels’, that when reached, have specific rewards promised for the one achieving higher understanding. While there may in fact be some ‘higher power’ instituting some reward for generosity, it is moot to my point. It is the promised rewards of spirituality that exists in what I call ‘the higher words’. These words carry in them, the full potential that is inherent in our reasoning abilities.
These are words that have in them the culmination of human endevers, defined, so a man can relate to his own position in the progress of his search for truth.

It is easy for a person to see which level of meaning he has achieved, because the ‘enhanced’ definition of the ‘word’ is present inside him. While maybe, the man that gives ‘all he has’ is not recognized for it, he knows! He carries within himself the knowledge that he has ‘done right’. I am of course referring to the ‘generous man’ as if he was being generous, in response to what he perceived as a higher level of ‘achievement’, presumably for some reward from the God he serves. That same man, could also have other esoteric words expanded in his consciousness.

The word SANCTIFICATION is also a good word to use. When two men, read the words in the Bible that say, ‘today you have received your sanctification’, each man can have a completely different ‘understanding of the same word. When one reads it, he knows, at least intellectually, what the word sanctification signifies, and he takes from it, either that it is a ‘possibility’, or it is something he could learn more about; but when the other man reads it, he joys in what that word means to him. He takes it as a holy declaration to him, personally, that it has taken place, past tense! His, call it reward, comes to him in the form of an elation, or a comforting conformation of his ‘status’ in his quest. He enjoys the fruit that is possible from that single word, merely because he relates that word with a status he feels worthy of applying to himself. worthy because he believes it to be so, because of what I call, ‘seeing above the mundane interpretation.’ He allows that word it’s full potential of meaning.

The changing meanings of words are peculiarly tied to our intellects. It is a dynamic that goes into effect when we absorb a word. It can’t be faked, nor can the ‘feelings’ be induced that are meanings above the mundane. You can’t fake understanding! There is a line of demarcation that separates an intellectual understanding and, an experiential understanding.
