The only book of Orson Scott Card I really liked was Ender's Game, all the others seemed a little weak..

If you're gonna read Asimov, you could read either the robot trilogy (although I like I, Robot better than any of the three novels) or the foundation trilogy. The robot trilogy is a little less 'deep', but I liked the foundation books a lot more.

I'd read anything by Carl Sagan, or his son Nick Sagan, but Nick's books are more for a younger demograph than you my dear deb.
