Oh absolutely I agree with you about the media, the government, and any religion you can point at because they all want power and control. Personally I rather have someone stick a gun to my head.
I've in my life being the innocent looking white boy I am have been approached by many many people. While yet to have a gun stuck exactly in my face, it has been attempted among many other implements used for things other than killing. I have been confronted by Muslims and Christians and Hindus and Buddhists and Satanists and... the list goes on. Thats why I am an Agnostic by label and I like it much better than any other. I judge the culture not the religion incidently sisterX and thats the truth. I apologise if I mischaracterized Islam in the Middleast but it sure looks that way. I don't find any religion very peaceful.
The last Muslim I talked to offered me the final stuff that makes Muslim religion great and I kid you not... a Harem! (now the Mormons offer the same thing infrequently nowadays hehe)
