I sometimes think that celebrities grasping onto (and loudly and publicly praising) a particular branch of religion belies a deeper spiritual emptiness that they are desperately trying to fill. If you belong, say, to the kaballah faith or Scientology, why must you make a big public hairy deal of it? Are you looking for affirmation from others who might decide to follow your faith just because you (their favorite celebrity) is now embracing it? Are you trying to polish your public image by proclaiming your faith in a religion, even if that faith is new-found and quite possibly questionable? So many other celebrities don't openly profess their religious beliefs that it makes me wonder why this select few feel they have to take upon themselves to prostrate themselves on a public altar? |
