Anthony Demello (S.J.) describes faith as the ability to follow the truth, no matter where it leads you and even when you don't know where it's leading you.
This is not the common view of faith, however. The popular western view of faith is that it counteracts doubt. People use it synonymously with belief. In this sense, it's valueless and crippling to the human population. It sets them up for conflicts between what is real and "what they want to be real."
So many words are tainted in today's society such as faith and atheist.
