I would say then, logically, the possibility exists that the stories could have been altered or written afterwards. Has nothing to do with how well the scribes transcribed, because most of everything they wrote is lost. For us today, to have evidence that the stories have not changed to match historical events, we would HAVE to have original texts, dated to BEFORE the events.
