Mel's father's name is Hutton Gibson. He is a known anti-Semite and Holocaust denier. He is part of a sect of Cathlicism that is not recognized by the Vatican. En Vino Veritas-There is Truth in Wine. This anger and hatred is somewhere inside Mel. I think if the arresting officer were Irish or black, he would have launched into a tirade against their ethnicity as well.
Maybe I missed something, but i thought the movie "The Passion" depicted the Romans as brutal animals. The Jews portrayed in the movie (besides Jesus, his family and friends) who were the "bad guys" were the "Establishment", the "Authorities", and the "System".
The message I got from that aspect of the film was not "Watch out for the Jews" but "Watch out for the Power Brokers." Then again, I already was wary of the powerful before I saw the movie, so......
