My name is Dave and I'm 20. Pretty sure that I've gone through about every faith under the sun. I was raised in a Christian house, and while I don't have anything against anyone's beliefs, within the past few years I couldn't help but notice the hypocrisy of 2 of my family members. They both always use the infamous phrase, "well the Bible says it".
Yeah, well what about what the Torah says? Or what about the Koran? They both also tend to follow what's convenient for them rather than follow the Bible word for word which is what they tend to preach to me. I feel Jesus existed as a historical person, but I'm not sure about whether he was anything more than just a good man or not. Since deciding Christianity isn't exactly for me, I haven't made up my mind when it comes to what I'd like to follow from now on. I think I'll always believe in an afterlife and a higher power one way or the other, but for the time being, I can't say I have a "religion".
Glad to be here. |
Welcome Dave!
You made a wise choice. Im pretty much in the same boat you are as far as beliefs. There are many good books on non-religious spirituality out there. If your looking for suggestions, I highly recommend "conversations with god" by Neale Donald Walsch. Its a very easy fascinating read and is definitely not "religious". All the major bookstores carry it and it was on the NY times bestseller lists. You wont regret it.
