My brother has lived and worked in the States for some years; is married to an American; and is currently in the process of becoming a citizen. I have several other relatives in the U.S. as well. Yes, we do study a bit about your country in school, both in optional courses like American History and in current events discussions. And we are your neighbours, after all, and can learn a great deal about you just from observing you and listening to the U.S. news networks.
I've also read several Thomas Paine essays, on my own initiative.

The law makers should not have to bow down to a tiny minority... If the sight of a crucifix or the word GOD offends anyone, then just don't look at it!!!! ...GET OVER IT!!!

I find it incredibly sad that you think the onus is upon the minority to simply "get over it" when a majority forces their opinions upon them. In my opinion, that's abusive. Even if a 'minority' is one person, that one person has a right to be protected from everyone else.
Government should confine itself to issues relating to civil society -- Public safety, infrastructure, and the like. Religion has a large enough realm without annexing the town square, too.
