deb: One of my favourite movies is 'Leap of Faith' with Steve Martin. I love the evangelical music, and the healing, and the idea that in the end the whole thing turns out 'not' to be a fraud because God really 'does' love us and care for us and will show Himself and heal us when the time is right. Sadly, as you say, real life doesn't work that way. Faith is a kind of love, which is why it makes little sense to try to convert an agnostic. Even though we may want faith, it can't be forced. It would be like trying to force yourself to love someone just because you know that person would be really good for you. Like all emotions, you can't force yourself to experience love in relation to someone. You either experience it, or you do not. I don't think it's better being an agnostic, since in my view, the benefits are clearly better in being a Christian. I just can't force myself to believe in Jesus, as much as I wish I could. I'd much rather believe that I will have eternal life, but to me it just seems silly. Plus I think being an agnostic makes me sexier. |
