Doesn't that seem more like something religious leaders would use to ensure that anyone who wanted to obey them could by using this loophole? You can't control people if some people think they aren't worthy of being controlled right  I'm not sure why you're so totally convinced that religion is about control. Have you evaluated what the Bible actually says? It says nothing about putting faith in "master... erm, preacher" as you put it.

define what it is to be a hypocrite in this situation. if we were claiming to be perfect and sinning, thats hypocrasy. if we're claiming to make an effort towards perfection, and fall short at times, thats different.
