...... Let me ask you this can science explain where compassion and love come from? I realize some emotions have been explained through brain research like endorphines etc but what about love? have you ever loved or felt love?
Your first point, I understand better now, I think we can blame society (ourselves) to a large extent for the apparently (maybe obviously) contradicting claims. And the funding ... when was the last time I (we) took an interest in the way science got funded and did something about it? I actually work in an industrial research facility. Now the research organizations to get funding are only as good as their track record. If the results are hidden away in some dusty journal then there is no more funding. Now if we get a "return of the killer tomatoes" .... gotcha! I have to admit I take all the nutritional fads with a pinch of salt (high blood pressure now). My concern: research is very much focussed on solving problems; not knowledge for its own sake. Today we have to have a deliverable (or at least be seen to have one).

Love? ... everyday... is there an explanation? Not complete, (probably only partially right) and never will be completely right .... job security for researchers. If you can engage Og in a discussion on brain chemistry and love... that could be interesting .... (ps which kind of love were you refering to the youthful kind or 32 years of marriage kind?)
Love is Love if you feel it or receive it who needs to explain it, just bask in the beauty of it and enjoy the giving and receiving of it. I personally think it is a precious gift that I do not believe Science can explain or needs too.
