Atleast a couple Chinese citizens have died as a result of exhaustion from video game binges. That alone would negatively effect life expectancy. But I'd also say that it's highly probable that video games contribute to the obesity problem, and being majorly obese has been shown to also negatively effect your life expectancy.
For a short time I myself was addicted to a video game, the negative effects of being such are indeed real; thus it's hard to see how a longterm addiction could not negatively impact anyone's life. The nature of the addiction mentally impales your capability of breaking away from the addiction itself.
Banning them isn't the answer. Banning alcohol isn't the answer. Banning marijuana is also not the answer.
