I totally understand what you are saying.
Here's the point I am trying to make.
Abraham according to Jewish and Christian scripture was a man who worshiped god, associated nothing with god, submitted himself completely to god's will, was an honest and righteous man and so on.
The above statement isn't just made by the Qur'an, it is made by their scripture. So what the Qur'an is telling them, let's forget about all the labels and follow the way of Abraham, whatever you want to call it is beside the point.
We want to follow the religion of Abraham, and we do know, as well as they do, that he was not Jewish and was not Christian, because such labels were only created after Moses on one hand and Jesus. So let us follow that religion of worshiping god alone, and be in total submission to him.
