If you think it's important to play nice with fundies, then please knock yourself out.

I, for one, since leaving christianity specifically, and organized religion in general, behind some 15 years ago, have come to believe that religion does more harm than good.

While acknowledging the good that it does through its food banks, urban ministries and other "compassionate conservative" initiatives, I also realize that the religious right is primarily responsible for a political and social neanderthal like George W. Bush having been in power as the leader of the free world for the past 7 years, and that is patently inexcusable.

Why do you think that responses to these fundie martyrs who come here so that they can suffer an appropriate degree of persecution and go limping back to their folds wearing a red, or at least somewhat deep pink, badge of courage, could just as well be cut and pasted from numerous such posts going back several years? It's because they've abdicated their ability to think critically to one of numerous evangelical leaders, many of whom have recently been revealed to be morally bankrupt, and adopted their anti-social philosophies lock stock and barrel (a metaphor that assault-weapon-toting NRA fundamentalists can surely relate to).

I've attempted to reason with them on this and other similar forums for at least a couple of years, and found that it's impossible. You may read some of my posts and conclude that I'm equally entrenched in my anti-religious beliefs. But the difference is that I don't consider it a sin or a betrayal of my beliefs to consider a different point of view.
