With this short of a post I am uncertain what you mean.
The Bible, and other books of that time period that where not selected by the church, clearly state that we are here for each other and ourselves. They state to start within you, know yourself, and love yourself. They then speak of us doing the same for others.
To love yourself and others is as far from idolatry as you are from infinity. It starts here, on earth, with each other. This is the temple, it is where the rubber meets the road
