So..... what is it that makes fascists and their ilk believe that their happiness must come at the expense of others? It appears you can't feel good about yourself without having someone else to look down on, regardless of whether the one you choose to look down on is actually
below you in any real sense of the word.
Such a world view isn't a philosophy; it's a personality disorder that afflicts enough people that some of them band together to reinforce their narrow-mindedness and misery.
Joseph Campbell taught some valuable lessons regarding duplicitiues and dichotomies. There is so much that all human beings have in common, and so much they could accomplish by seeking out their commonalities and learning to leverage them through common causes and action.
However, that possibility is negated when people constantly seek out their differences and attempt to use the distinctions for their own aggrandizement.
