It is however individuals that make the laws and decide what is just, vigilantiasm in numerous cases is usually agreeable by the majority of a nation's citizens. You don't hear too many people calling for the head of a man who killed a 20 count child molestor now do ya?
If I was in power I'd raise the punishment for child molestation way up, but since in liberal democracies such as Canada child molestation usually doesn't result in a longer sentence than 2 years, vigilantiasm is given as a much more favourable option.
