Muhammed did not ban pork, God commanded us not to eat pork. So muslims don't eat pork because of this command. Even if one was to make sure the meat was disease and parasite free, it would still be prohibited. Having said that, the swine is a scavenging animal and an omnivore that will eat anything. It is a very dirty animal by nature. Not only does pork take longer to digest than other types of meat, but it is usually ridden with parasitic worms and bacteria. Interestingly, it also has very similar amino acid combinations as human meat. Pig's are also sexually leud animal. It has been scientifically proven that many predators adopt behavioural traits from their prey, this may be true for human beings too. I don't know about early christianity but i know that pork is prohibited in judaism also.
