Hi Jaej
I do not know your Holy Spirit expereinces or lack thereof.
I can only go by the people I know. There are many who do not know or feel or had revelation from the Holy Spirit. When talking to these people there are some things missing like a daily prayer life, daily Bible reading or they are just plain young in thier faith. Being young is not about years but about maturity and this may or may not coincide with years as a Christian. The other problem is sin in thier lives. This will and does stunt your spiritual growth.
If you only study the Bible at an intellectual level then you will miss out on revelation.. This does not mean that we disregard intellect completly of course. read Corinthians 1:23, Timothy 2:5 and Galations 1:7-12.
The best verse is John 16:12-15. It basically says without revelation(knowledge some Bibles say) we perish spiritually. Revelation opens up a new insight and reality of living, possibilities and faith.
Its similar to reading about Love without expereincing it. Once one has had the reality of love reading about it changes it completely.
