I believe God sent many many prophets, thousands, there were no people who were left without knowledge. Adam was the first prophet and Muhammed was the last.
The teachings were all the same, they all came with the same message, the 'Oneness of God' and to worship only one God. This message is there in minute detail everywhere you go.
